Why My “Wrong Turns” Were Actually Right

The year was 2022, and I had just successfully completed my first lashing course. The lash tech must have seen something in me because she invited me to work with her and her colleague in her salon. She would bring me clients, teach me the latest trends in lashing and take 50% commission.

I accepted enthusiastically because it was my first time working with someone else, and I really hoped it would be the answer to my professional identity crisis. We worked together for a few months, but her focus changed solely to training lash artists. This meant she didn’t have time to help me with clients or social media anymore. We decided to go our separate ways. Lashing wasn’t as fun as I thought it’d be, and I wasn’t great at talking to clients. So, I started looking for something more creative.

2023 arrived, and I started a new office job where I learned how to write scripts for creative videos and then edit them. I was excited to be doing something creative, and I liked the idea of ‘flexible’ work rather than a full-time job. However, it wasn’t long before they were demanding more and more of my presence there in exchange for little money.
